Dramatic cuts in pay can be imposed on workers under the National Framework negotiated by Vice Chancellors and the national leadership of the NTEU.
Management would be able to impose a ten percent cut in fraction (hours), as well as a cut in wage rates, and would be able to suspend scheduled pay rises and increments. Under the Framework, universities are sorted into “Category A” or “Category B” depending on financial criteria.
The NTEU estimates that 65% of universities would fall into “Category A”, which means management can impose a total cut in pay of ten percent on each individual worker. “Category B” (estimated 25% of unis) can impose a total cut in pay of 15% on each worker. Note: This calculator does not include the withholding of increments and pay rises scheduled in Enterprise Agreements, which is also possible under the Framework.
